Mass unemployment followed on from the collapse of the Soviet Union. In the very south-east of Russia, Primorye region (maritime), on the coast of the Sea of Japan nine out ten citizens live off marine poaching. Friendly relations between poachers and the police have been established since school years.
The main consumers of sea food are China and North Korea. Cafes and restaurants are supplied with crabs and other delicacies mainly from Russia and nobody denies it and shrugs it off. Everyone knows the way millions of tons of poached and cooked sea creatures find themselves on Chinese plates.
